Apple Day Fun

October is the month for Apple Day!  Different groups have held their Apple Days on different weekends.  But everyone will agree that this is a fun and worthwhile event that helps us to raise funds to hold our activities and remind the public that Scouting is still thriving in New Brunswick.  To see photos, click here.

Did you know that Apple Day got its start in Saint John?  The first Apple Day in Canada took place in Saint John in 1932 led by Scouter Eli Boyanner. Apple Day was meant as a means for Scouting to say "thank-you" to the community for their support of our programs by the giving of an apple. The response was that people began to make donations in return for receiving an apple.

Many thanks to our National Apple Day partner Superstore/Loblaws and the many other stores in our area who support Scouting by allowing us to conduct our Apple D-ay Fundraisers at their front doors.

Silver Falls 500 Action!

April is the time for all the drivers on the professional Cub Car circuit to rev up their engines and prepare for the Silver Falls 500.  48 Cubs competed.  12 Scouts helped officiate.  It was great fun for everyone!

Religion in Life Cubs/Scouts/Venturers

We had a great crowd of Cubs, Scouts and Venturers for our Religion in Life workshop held at Silver Falls United Church.  Participants enjoyed an Agape meal at lunch, eating many of the kinds of things that would have been eaten in Jesus' time in Israel.

Woodbadge I

A good time was had by all at the Woodbadge  training event held at Silver Falls Church on Saturday December 10.  Participants took part in Colony, Pack, Troop and Company training.

Winter Camp

(New Photos)

Wabanaki Winter Camp had beautiful wintery weather, cold and clear.  Scouts and Venturers were there from Westfield, Ketepec, 1st St. Andrews, Portland and Silver Falls.  The temperature dipped to -16.8oC overnight.  But everyone seemed pretty chipper on Sunday morning.

New Photos!

New Camping Resources

Three Ontario provincial parks not far from Toronto have introduced a camping-for-newbies program.  Participants learn how to set up a tent, build a campfire, cook on a camp stove and perform other activities key to enjoying - and surviving - the great outdoors.  Most camping equipment is supplied, including a tent, cooking utensils, camp stove and dishes.

Their Camping Resources page has great resources available for both new and experienced Scouters.  Or visit their home page to learn more about this interesting program.
