Camp Holderville is one of three official Scouts Canada Camps in New Brunswick. It is on the Kingston Peninsula north of Saint John. You can access the peninsula either by land from Hampton or by one of three New Brunswick Department of Transportation ferries, the Westfield Ferry, the Gondola Point Ferry or the Summerville-Millidgeville Ferry (sometimes referred to as the Romeo and Juliet Ferry) which is seasonal (April-December). Directions if you take the Westfield Ferry: Take Highway 7 south from Fredericton or north from West Side Saint John. Take the Hwy 102 exit (Exit #80). Go down the hill towards Westfield. Turn right on Nerepis Road (Hwy 177). Go 2.2 km. Turn left at Ferry Road (Across from the Westfield Country Store). Cross on the Ferry. If you have never taken one of the river ferries, drive to the stop sign and follow the directions given by the crewman aboard the ferry. After you cross the ferry, bear left on Highway 845. It is a little over ten kilometres to Holderville. The street number is 3022. If you reach Gault Road, you went too far. Directions if you take the Gondola Point Ferry: Take Highway 1 to the Highway 119 North Exit. Follow it all the way to the ferry landing at Gondola Point. When you cross to the other side, turn left on Highway 845. Drive for 5.2 km to Williams' Road (Just past the Legion). Turn right at the fire hall. Take Williams' Road all the way to the end (6.5 km), which takes you back onto Highway 845. Turn left. Go approximately 6.7 km. The camp is approximately 2 km past Gault Road at Number 3022. If you reach Crystal Beach, you have gone way too far. To see a map of the Scout camp, click here. It is a 1:10000 scanned image of a topographical map with the trails and magnetic grid lines (the diagonal parallel lines) drawn on by hand. |
